Exciting Opportunity: College Job Coach for a New Specialist Post 16 College Opening in 2024.
Little Gate College is a further education post 16 provider for students with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) that are aspiring to move into paid employment. Our brand new provision is set to open in September 2024, and we are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Job Coach to join our team. As a key member of our staff, you will play a crucial role in supporting our students on our Future Ready and Supported Internship programmes whilst on placements and in the community.

Little Gate College is offering two study programmes enabling students to experience up to three placements across the academic year, developing their transferable skills and increasing their confidence as they explore the world of work.
Could you be our next College Job Coach? A Job Coach will directly work with students who may not have had experience of work before but want to get into the world of work. They will need your support to enable them to succeed and to embed their learning from their education days.

Main purpose of job:
Job Coaches provide subtle support that enables the student to learn systems and processes within their workplace, so they become a valued employee! You will build confidence and support them to learn the skills they need to do the job to the best of their ability.
Students at Little Gate College will complete up to 3 placements across the academic year. These placements may be in different roles or with different employers. A job coach supports both a student and their parents/carers, often supporting with travel training, benefits sign posting, and providing support and guidance for the whole family.
Job coaches can be supporting our students in various sectors from hospitality, health and social care, maintenance, engineering, customer service, construction and more. We aim to partner the job coach in a sector they are familiar with.
Job coaches may work as a pair or individually within a placement and autonomously within a wider team and will need to occasionally attend meetings at our Bexhill office. To be a job coach is immensely rewarding work as you get to directly support a student on their journey to paid employment.

Salary:
£12.50 per hour
College Job Coach (term time only)
28 hours per week over 4 days, Monday – Thursday, 39 weeks per year term time only, plus compulsory 10 days of CPD training usually delivered at the end of August annually, dates TBC. Annual leave to be taken outside of college term time during academic holidays.

1 year fixed term contract (Employment with Little Gate Farm will expire at the end of the fixed term appointment. Alternatively, LGF may offer permanent employment in this role, offer to extend this fixed term contract or offer a new fixed-term or permanent contract in a different job role).

Safeguarding requirements:
All employees and volunteers and volunteers, regardless of their posts, share in the responsibility for protecting our work trainees, young rangers and students, keeping them safe from harm whilst they are attending Little Gate and for reporting concerns about any person’s welfare and safety.
The post holder will be engaging in regulated activity with young people and/or adults at risk.

Main tasks of job:
· To provide in work support to students in their work setting.
· To support students to develop their skills, confidence and knowledge as they move towards paid employment.
· To provide information, advice, guidance, and support to students who have barriers to entering training or employment.
· To set up work placements and monitor those placements.
· To monitor progress of the student whilst on their work placements and community days.
· To support high quality teaching/learning programmes delivered by college education staff and embed learning to achieve individual learning outcomes aligned to identified support needs including Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) goals.
· To monitor and record that student learning needs are being met through regular communication with the college education staff and employer to support timely learning outcomes.
· Establish collaborative relationships and networks within and outside Little Gate, by working with employers/organisations to look at job opportunities and ways to support learners in the placement.
· Carry out initial health and safety checks prior to students starting their for work placements.
· Prepare applications for job coaching and travel training funding using the DWP Access To Work processes and procedures, supported by your line lead and internal Access to Work team.
· Contribute to and maintain action plans for students, including SMART goals.
· Maintain accurate records of the student’s work placements in line with regular review of progress.
· Support students in applying for placements/employment opportunities.
· Using Training in systematic Instruction, support students in their placements as required.
· Deliver travel training to students as required.
· Identify training needs for students in relevant skill and knowledge areas that link to employability skills.
· Liaise with Little Gate Head of College and Programme Manager in the case of pastoral care.
· Work with employers to look at job carving to create appropriate work experience and employment opportunities.
· Maintain accurate records as required for monitoring, quality, and audit in accordance with Little Gate policies.
· Manage own workload, prioritising effectively to meet agreed objectives and deadlines.
· Support with promotional Little Gate events within the academic year.
· Ensure compliance with processes and procedures.
· Provide support to other team members.
· Attend team meetings and training as required.
· Any other duties required by Head of College.

Person Specification;
Essential Criteria;
· Willingness to work in a wide variety of work settings and job roles.
· Be a car driver with access to a car for work purposes or have the ability to travel to various work locations across Hastings, Bexhill, Eastbourne and Rother independently via public transport or other means.
· Be subject to an enhanced disclosure by the Disclosure and Barring Service
· Experience of work and successfully dealing with employers.
· Understanding of recruitment and/or training and employment issues.
· A good level of education – A minimum of Grade 4 / GCSE C in Maths and English.
· Self-organisation and self-motivation.
· Able to use personal initiative within a structured framework.
· Good negotiation skills.
· Use IT systems including Office 365 independently, efficiently, and effectively.
· Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, with other staff, students/customers, employers, and other professionals.
· Ability to show empathy and understanding towards with other staff, trainees/customers, employers, and other professionals.
· Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job.
· Maintain accurate records as required for monitoring, quality, and audit in accordance with Little Gate policies.
· Willingness to undertake all relevant training.
· Ability to work under pressure.
· Ability to work flexibly.

Desirable Criteria;
· Knowledge of risk assessment processes.
· Experience of working with people with ASD or learning disabilities.

· Basic knowledge of welfare benefits
Qualifications;
A minimum of Grade 4 / GCSE C in Maths and English.
