Exciting Opportunity: Individual Needs Assistant (INA) for a New Specialist Post 16 College Opening in 2024.
Little Gate College is a further education post 16 provider for students with an EHCP that are aspiring to move into paid employment. Our brand new provision is set to open in September 2024, and we are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated INA to join our team.

Main purpose of job:
Little Gate College opens to students in September 2024 and will be offering two study programmes. Future Ready: Learning for life and employment. This programme is for those learners who have a desire to be in paid employment but may not have had the opportunity to develop the skills required for the working world yet. Supported Internships is a programme for those learners who have a desire to be in paid employment and may have experienced voluntary work or work experience. The Individual Needs Assistant will support one student to access both their education and days out in the community and on placement.
As an INA you will provide subtle support that enables the student to learn systems and processes within the classroom and their workplace. You will build confidence and support the student to learn the skills they need to fully access their study programme.
Students at Little Gate College will complete up to 3 placements across the academic year. These placements may be in different roles or with different employers. As an Individual Needs Assistant, you will support the student both within education days and their work placement days and in the community – this may include supporting within lessons, travel training, learning new tasks in work placements and supporting and developing key skills within social interactions.
All support staff are part of a whole College team. They are required to uphold the values and ethos of Little Gate College and College priorities.
To assist in promoting the learning and personal development of the pupil to whom you are assigned, to enable them to make best use of the educational opportunities available to them.

Bexhill, Hastings, Rother, Wealden and Eastbourne district (some requirement to travel)
Salary:
£12.50 per hour (term time only)
24 hours per week over 4 days, Tuesday – Friday, 8.45-15.15 (30 minutes lunch break), 39 weeks per year term time only, plus compulsory 10 days of CPD training usually delivered at the end of August 2024, dates TBC. Annual leave to be taken outside of college term time during academic holidays.

6 months
Contract type:
1 year fixed term contract (Employment with Little Gate College will expire at the end of the fixed term appointment. Alternatively, LG may offer permanent employment in this role, offer to extend this fixed term contract or offer a new fixed-term or permanent contract in a different job role).

Safeguarding requirements:
All employees and volunteers and volunteers, regardless of their posts, share in the responsibility for protecting our work trainees, young rangers and students, keeping them safe from harm whilst they are attending Little Gate and for reporting concerns about any person’s welfare and safety.
The post holder will be engaging in regulated activity with young people and/or adults at risk.

Main tasks of job:
· Supporting a student in a classroom, community days and workplace settings to access the curriculum.
· Provide support to a student in their work and classroom setting.
· Use language and other communication skills that the student can understand.
· Assist in delivering high-quality teaching/learning programmes by embedding tailored support for individual learning outcomes, addressing identified needs, and aligning with Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) goals.
· Using Training in Systematic Instruction to support student in their placements and classroom as required.
· Deliver travel training to the student as required.
· Liaise with Little Gate Head of College and Programme Manager in the case of pastoral care.
· Establish productive relationships with the student and their circle of support and empathise with their needs.
· Ensure compliance with processes and procedures.
· Attend team meetings as required.
· Effectively implement agreed behaviour management strategies.
· Monitor the student’s response to the learning activities and, where appropriate, modify or adapt the activities as agreed with the teacher to achieve the intended learning outcomes
· Maintain accurate records of the student’s work placements in line with regular review of progress.
· Carry out and report on systematic observations of students’ knowledge, understanding and skills and contribute to and maintain action plan for students including SMART goals.
· Give constructive feedback to the student to reinforce self-esteem

Essential Criteria;
· Experience of supporting special education needs students in a secondary or FE classroom environment.
· Experience of using a wide range of learning resources to support the best learning outcomes.
· Knowledge of strategies to recognise efforts and achievements towards self-reliance.
· Ability to show empathy and understanding towards other staff, students, employers and professionals.
· Work effectively to manage own time and priorities and work supportively as a member of the College team.
Be a car driver with access to a car for work purposes or have the ability to travel to various work locations across Hastings, Bexhill, Eastbourne and Rother independently.
· Knowledge of safeguarding.
· Be subject to an enhanced disclosure by the Disclosure and Barring Service
· A minimum of Grade 4 / GCSE C in Maths and English.
· Self-organisation and self-motivation.
· Able to use personal initiative within a structured framework.
· Good negotiation skills.
· Use IT systems including Office 365 independently, efficiently, and effectively.
· Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, with other staff, students/customers, employers, and other professionals.
· Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job.
· Maintain accurate records as required for monitoring, quality, and audit in accordance with Little Gate policies.
· Ability to work under pressure.
· Ability to work flexibly.
· Commitment to own personal development including attending training activities offered by the school to further knowledge.

· Knowledge of risk assessment processes.

Qualifications;
A minimum of Grade 4 / GCSE C in Maths and English.
