An exciting opportunity has opened at Little Gate Farm, and we are looking for enthusiastic individuals to join our team as on-call support staff.
In this role, you’ll step in during staff holidays or absences, ensuring our trainees and young people, continue to receive the outstanding education and training, they expect.
Alternative provision
Join our education team, where we provide alternative provision to students who may be finding traditional education challenging. We offer personalised outdoor learning, including forest school, bushcraft, animal care and conservation. You may be supporting a student one to one, or as part of a group; helping them gain essential life skills, work towards qualifications, and raising aspirations.
Work skills training – supported employment
Join our Farm team, providing work skills training to autistic and learning-disabled adults, on our supported employment program. You may support trainees one to one, or groups of trainees, within the farm areas, including woodland and charcoal social enterprise, gardening, animal care, catering, land management and our cut flower social enterprise. Here, we support trainees to achieve their goals, recognise and develop their strengths, and build their essential skills, ready for paid employment.

Location:
Little Gate Farm, Horseshoe Lane, Beckley, East Sussex TN31 6RZ. A unique 46-acre farm in glorious rural surroundings, with canteen, free parking and surrounded by ancient woodland.
Salary:
£12 per hour
Weekday shifts available throughout the year
You may be occasionally be offered work outside of these hours
Probationary period:
6 months
Holiday Entitlement:
5.6 weeks (calculated pro-rata to hours worked)

Safeguarding requirements:
All employees and volunteers, regardless of their posts, share in the responsibility for protecting our work trainees, young rangers and students, keeping them safe from harm whilst they are attending Little Gate and for reporting concerns about any person’s welfare and safety.
DBS requirements;
Child and adult workforce Enhanced and Barred list check
Start date. Immediate (dependent on DBS and other employment checks and satisfactory references), flexible start
Job responsibilities
Enable and nurture learning-disabled and autistic adults and young people to make significant personal progress
Support trainees and students in developing essential skills, including teamwork, leadership, communication, problem-solving and positivity, working towards their goals, through hands-on farm activities. These activities include:
Woodworking and bushcraft
Animal care
Cultivation and horticulture
Cooking in both kitchen and outdoor environments
Conservation and land management
Maintenance and tool use
Support students and trainees in taking ownership of their learning, using programs such as Skills Builder, guiding them toward the achievement of their personalised goal.
Foster a goal-focused, positive environment where achievements are celebrated
Promote safety and support for trainees/students to help them achieve their potential.
Discourage learned helplessness and encourage active participation and motivation.
Work flexibly and creatively to develop engaging and motivating activities aligned with the program aims.
Additional Duties:
Monitor and report progress daily, using our CRM system and reporting systems.
Actively participate in feedback meetings.
Pursue personal professional development opportunities.
Attend staff meetings to support the program’s smooth operation.
Adhere to Health & Safety regulations and farm policies.
Participate in regular mandatory training.
Engage in regular 1:1s and appraisals to support professional development.
Applicant requirements
All employees of Little Gate Farm have a responsibility for protecting our work trainees, young rangers and students by keeping them safe and reporting any concerns about any person’s welfare and safety. The post holder will be engaging in regulated activity with young people and/or adults at risk and any job offer will be subject to a satisfactory enhanced DBS check. Initial and ongoing training will be provided to the successful applicant.

Experience using email and Microsoft programs such as Office 365.
Ability to travel to the farm independently
Passion for enabling adults and young people with learning disabilities and autism to fulfil their potential.
Enthusiasm for teaching essential skills and helping trainees and young people work towards specific goals.
Passion, drive and intrinsic motivation and initiative.
Desirable:
Experience teaching, coaching and/or education.
Familiarity working in outdoor environments and experience in:
Woodland management
Maintenance and tool use
Farm animal care, including ponies, small animals, sheep and goats
Horticulture and gardening experience, including flower or vegetable cultivation
Catering
